Nazaré, the Big “Animal” Thursday

Words can’t explain what I felt when arrive at Nazaré that day. The size of the waves, the roar of the ocean and the amount of water moving in all directions was completely out of this world. I was so blown away by the immense power of the waves that completely forgot to photograph for a while.

The place was already crowded with hundreds of spectators, knowing that the local forecast pointed out a huge North swell of 4.7m and 20s wave period.

In the water, I could see at least 3 or 4 teams of surfers working out the right position to catch those monstrous waves. A small error could lead to a wipeout of epic proportions, which did happen…

I was impressed by the courage and determination of those guys out there.

I don’t know if the biggest wave ever ridden took place that day, but it was really exhilarating to watch and hope my photos can somehow reflect these emotions!

Unreal photos. I dig the different perspective on the lineup from way back in the cliffs. Nice work!
